Baptism is a(n)…
- Public celebration of your commitment to Jesus and becoming a part of His community of followers, it’s more than an individual act in our own spiritual journey.
- Expression of your decision to enter a new kind of life, living in a growing relationship with Jesus, free from the power of sin and the past.
- Identification with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection: Immersion in the water signifies death to sin; coming up out of the water signifies being ‘resurrected’ into new life.
- Belief in action that Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection made it possible for us to be forgiven of all our sins and be re-connected with God.
If you have not been baptized since becoming a follower of Jesus, we encourage you to do so!
Kids and Baptism
Is your child curious about Baptism? Our class “Is Baptism For Me?” will help them understand what Baptism is, what it is not, and if now is the right time for them. For more info/class dates and times contact: Julie.Smith@SHVchurch.org
Infant and Kid Dedication
Dedicating your kids is about publicly stating that you are giving back the gift that was given to you by God. It’s an ongoing commitment to trust God’s plan in your parenting. Our desire is to support and stand with you as a church family.
Dedication of children is based on the model of Samuel in the Old Testament (1 Samuel 1:21-29) and Jesus in the New Testament (Luke 2:21-24). Download a Child Dedication Form. For more info contact: Julie.Smith@SHVchurch.org
