Evacuation
These safety procedures have been developed by the SHV Kids staff with the safety of your children as our main priority. Reasons we may need to evacuate the building include fire, biohazard threat, a gas leak, etc. Upon sound of the fire alarm, your children will be evacuated from the building. SHV Kids will evacuate to the outer-edge of the south parking lot. Once the children are settled and have been accounted for, we will begin releasing them to parents.
- Lockdown
The reasons we may need to enter lockdown include an armed intruder, a person under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a person exhibiting harmful or erratic behavior, or any threat outside the building, etc. Under NO circumstances will any doors, including outside doors, be opened until the all-clear is given after a lockdown procedure. Once the all-clear has been given we will release children as our check-out procedures describe.
Medical Emergencies and Minor Incidents
In the case of a medical emergency or a minor incident, parents or guardians will be contacted immediately through our paging system. Under no circumstances will a member of the SHV Kids staff administer medication to a child. If a child requires medication, a parent or guardian must administer it. We ask that all parents and guardians complete the section called “Special Instructions and Allergies” on the Family Registration Form. For medical emergencies, an “Ouch Report” form will be filled out as soon as possible. The church will keep one copy of this report, and you will be given the other copy.
- Non Life-Threatening Situations
(Examples: Possible broken limb, bite, vomiting, or diarrhea). An SHV Kids staff member will notify you that there is an emergency.
- Life-Threatening Situations
(Examples: Not breathing, seizures, loss of consciousness, serious allergic reaction, or a major cut or injury). An SHV staff member will call 911 and then page the parent or guardian.
Missing Child
In the event of a missing child the security team will be alerted and SHV church will enter lockdown until the child is located.
