Missions Update

The SHV Missions Team meets regularly to plan local, regional and international mission opportunities for members of the body.  On Sunday, August 3, our annual Missions Sunday was held with dynamic speaker Steve Moore continuing Greg Thompson’s call to justice with the topic, The Promise of Hope.  The team set up tables in the café to inform interested people of exciting, upcoming opportunities to be the hands of God extended.  The team was inundated with people extremely excited to hear more details on upcoming trips to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Northern Thailand, and Chennai, India.

All those who expressed interest were invited to an informational meeting on Sunday, August 17.  The Puerto Vallarta trip is coming up quickly, October 11-18.  Interested people should contact Jacob Dukes at 303.690.2520 immediately to see if space is still available and to obtain additional information.  The team will be working with longtime SHV friends Ric and Joy Lehman with ministry to the poor of Mexico.

In early June, 2009 Tim and Annie Newton (303.690.9189) will lead a trip to a remote Akha village near Chiang Rai, Thailand to build a permanent church.  Included in this trip will be several days ministering to orphans (akhachildren.org) who have been rescued from the sex trade that is so prevalent in the land.  We will also connect with the Bransfords (bransfordsgo@yahoo.com) who minister in nearby Chiang Mai.

Later in the month of June, Mike Wilton-Clark (303.796.9860) will be leading a trip to Chennai, India (actsofmercy.org) to work with outcast widows in the country.  Leadership will be available for the Thailand and India trips to be combined or taken as separate trips.  Estimated cost of the trip is $2800, dependant on airfare.

For those who expressed interest and were not able to attend the meeting, it will be repeated on Sunday, September 7 at 12:30 pm in Room 120 (off of the north lobby).

More immediately, the team is working with Steve Moore on the Mission Exchange’s North American Mission Leaders Conference from September 24-27 at the Broomfield Interlocken Resort.   Please contact Susan Waldrop (303.703.9123) if you are able to assist during those dates.

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
because He hath anointed Me to
preach the gospel to the poor:
He hath sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
to preach deliverance to the captives,
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty them that are bruised,
to preach the acceptable year of the Lord."
Luke: 4-1
