COVID UPDATES

We are the church!  And the church is thriving...even in this season! As a community, SHV is entering our Phase II Covid-19 response. While we continue to meet online for weekend services, we have begun work to prepare for in-person services and execute plans to safely gather again.  We are targeting October for in-person weekend services, with new connection opportunities launching in September to kick off our community re-gathering.

Here’s what reopening in-person means for you:

Phase 1 - Ongoing Support

Those who prefer a “Safe At Home” approach to worship can continue experiencing support and connectedness. Despite physical distance, we continue to help you remain engaged with others in our community through new classes, small groups, and training opportunitiesthrough our food bank, through online services at 9:00a and 10:45a each Sunday, and in response to the call for increased prayer. How can we help you get, and stay, connected?

Phase 2 - In-Person Weekend Services

In October, we will begin the process of resuming in-person weekend services. These will launch in a phased approach:

  • As a reminder, you can still attend church online via our Facebook streamingYouTube channel, and the SHV Church App.  This remains unaffected by in-person services

  • Leaders and volunteers will be invited to join us for in-person “soft launch” services. This will allow SHV to implement and test our reopening guidelines and give our new processes a trial run. Watch for communication directly from your staff and ministry leaders in the coming month with details...

  • Once we are confident in our new processes, we will open in-person services for the entire church, friends and family, and our larger community!

  • SHV will provide detailed instructions on reopening plans as we get closer to our launch date – fill out our Connect Card to be included in future communication from our staff

Phase 3 - Resuming on-site church activities

Our final phase will still include resumption of all church-wide activities. As plans solidify we will keep you up to date!

As a church, our decisions are never based on politics, power struggles, or the economy.  We prayerfully seek God for wisdom, while balancing our responsibility to shepherd the flock and protect our most vulnerable members.  We believe Jesus still heals today, so we always pray for the sick.  At the same time, we guard against any form of presumption that assumes we can do whatever we want and God will "cover the bases.”  We invite you to join us in praying for wisdom, and for the kingdom of God to come in power in our community.  Let’s stay unified!

Praying for you,

Greg Thompson and the SHV staff

COMMON QUESTIONS

IS SHV STILL HOLDING SUNDAY SERVICES?

Yes!  We are currently streaming our service at both 9am and 10:45am. Join us live on Facebook and Youtube, or through the app. You can also watch the service later.  “Let us not give up meeting together…” (Hebrews 10:25)

CAN I SHARE THE LIVE FEED WITH MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY?

Yes, please share or host a watch party!  This is a great time to invite others to join you for service from the comfort of their own home.

HOW SOON DO YOU ANTICIPATE WE WILL BE HAVING SUNDAY SERVICE AGAIN?

We are eager to gather in person again, but how and when that will happen will be decided with much prayer and wisdom. We take the safety and concerns of our entire family very seriously. We will take things week by week and make announcements as things develop.

IF I NEED PRAYER OR WANT TO INTERACT WITH OTHER FOLLOWERS OF JESUS, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Our staff and prayer team is still reachable by email. If you need prayer, please fill out our prayer request form and check the box for follow up.

If you are looking for interaction with other followers of Jesus, look through our Groups and Events pages! We have a number of ways to connect with others.

HOW CAN I HELP?

Now, more than ever, your giving is necessary to support the mission of SHV. In addition, through the Hope Starts Here Food Bank, we are providing food and hope to 500+ families, including those impacted by COVID. You can give safely and conveniently online.

But also, be intentional about serving those in your sphere of influence. Check on your neighbor who may be stuck at home. Offer to go to the store. Pray for them.  Practice kindness.
