At SHV, we are unequivocally anti-racism.
-All are created equal at the hands of a loving God
-We are bridge builders and peacemakers
-Jesus charges us to 'Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is Near'
Repentance = Change
(change of action; change of heart)
“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”
-MLK “Letter from Birmingham Jail,” April 16, 1963
We are the church! And the church is thriving in this season of uncertainty…In recent weeks, we are encouraged to see our church continue to:
Encounter Jesus in prayer
Support SHV's food bank
Participate in online services each week
Experience transformation (YES, this can even happen
Partner in mission by serving our neighbors and community
Phase 1 - Meeting Online (As of Sunday 7/26)
As a church, we are currently in our Phase 1 response. Despite the physical distance, there are plenty of chances for you to stay (and get) connected. We are actively launching new classes, small groups, and training opportunities; serving hundreds of new families from the community through our food bank; offering ministry and leader training; and responding to the call for increased prayer. Where is Jesus inviting you to connect today?
Phase 2 - Weekend Services/Limited Gatherings
Our next Phased response will include plans to resume face-to-face Sunday worship services. We are in regular conversation with Colorado church leaders, and the governor's office, regarding when and how to reopen our church building for weekend services. We expect to have more information for you in early June.
For those who prefer our online services - we look forward to staying connected with you each week via our Facebook streaming, YouTube channel, and the SHV Church App. We appreciate your patience as we work out the myriad of re-opening details.
Phase 3 - Resuming on-site church activities
Our final phase will include resuming all church-wide activities. As you can imagine, this will be met with much anticipation and celebration! As plans solidify, we will keep you up to date.
As a church, our decisions are never based on politics, power struggles, or the economy. We prayerfully seek God for wisdom, while balancing our responsibility to shepherd the flock and protect our most vulnerable members. We believe Jesus still heals today, so we always pray for the sick. At the same time, we guard against any form of presumption that assumes we can do whatever we want and God will "cover the bases.” We invite you to join us in praying for wisdom, and for the kingdom of God to come in power in our community. Let’s stay unified!
Praying for you,
Greg Thompson and the SHV staff
IS SHV STILL HOLDING SUNDAY SERVICES?
Yes! We are currently streaming our service at both 9am and 10:45am. Join us live on Facebook and Youtube, or through the app. You can also watch the service later. “Let us not give up meeting together…” (Hebrews 10:25)
CAN I SHARE THE LIVE FEED WITH MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY?
Yes, please share or host a watch party! This is a great time to invite others to join you for service from the comfort of their own home.
HOW SOON DO YOU ANTICIPATE WE WILL BE HAVING SUNDAY SERVICE AGAIN?
We are eager to gather in person again, but how and when that will happen will be decided with much prayer and wisdom. We take the safety and concerns of our entire family very seriously. We will take things week by week and make announcements as things develop.
IF I NEED PRAYER OR WANT TO INTERACT WITH OTHER FOLLOWERS OF JESUS, WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Our staff and prayer team is still reachable by email. If you need prayer, please fill out our prayer request form and check the box for follow up.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Now, more than ever, your giving is necessary to support the mission of SHV. In addition, through the Hope Starts Here Food Bank, we are providing food and hope to 500+ families, including those impacted by COVID. You can give safely and conveniently online.
But also, be intentional about serving those in your sphere of influence. Check on your neighbor who may be stuck at home. Offer to go to the store. Pray for them. Practice kindness.
