SHV Facility update
Dear SHV Family,
I want to share with you some church facility news, and ask for your prayers as we move into this next season.
The SHV Board has decided to sell the current church facility to the HHA Charter School, and move into a new space by June of 2021.
We have been prayerfully exploring this option for several years for the following reasons:
This sale will completely free us from debt
Significant capital improvements (approx. $1Mil) are needed to update the property -which we cannot afford
We will begin looking for a bit smaller space to fit our congregation’s size
COVID has provided a great reminder that the church is not a building but the gathered community...the Ecclesia.
We believe God is leading us in this transition, and that our mission is not going to change – throwing out the net, equipping, building a multi-ethnic community and caring for the poor.
All of SHV’s vital ministries - including community life, weekend services and the HSH Food Bank - will continue to operate and be relocated in May.
I’ve experienced such a mixture of emotion with this decision, including a deep sense of sadness. June and I, and our boys, rode our bikes from Hampden and Chambers to this property in 1995 when there were no homes yet built. God has shown up so powerfully in this physical space for many years- countless people have begun following Jesus here, been set free, developed friendships, been equipped– the list goes on and on. I know you also have your own stories of encountering Jesus here.
At the same time, there have been many supernatural confirmations re: this new chapter. God is speaking that we are not to spend too much time grieving, but to rejoice at what He is bringing!
In Him all things hold together,
